William Ray Anthony

William Ray “Bill” Anthony, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Heisinger Bluffs.

He was born August 17, 1935, in Otterville, Missouri, the son of James Newman and Evalena (Parsons) Anthony.

Bill was a graduate of Tipton High School, received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture education and received his master’s degree in secondary school administration, both from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

He was united in marriage on August 24, 1956, in Tipton, Missouri to Mary M. Brant who survives.

Bill taught vocational agriculture in Norborne, MO, worked in broadcasting at KAOL in Carrolton and KLIK in Jefferson City, served as a school administrator in Centralia, and retired as Assistant Principal at Jefferson City High School.  Following retirement, he helped senior citizens in Cole and Moniteau counties through the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City where he taught a Sunday School class, served for more than 13 years with the Holts Summit Fire Protection District, volunteered with the Samaritan Center, Consumer Advisory Board of the National Medicare Rights Center, co-chaired the Mid-Missouri Unmet Needs Committee, served on the insurance advisory panel at the Missouri Department of Insurance and the Cole County Citizens Corps.

Bill also enjoyed working on odd jobs around the house and spending time outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Anthony, Jefferson City; two children, Brant (Lisa) Anthony, Jefferson City; Kim (Jeff) Overbey, Kearney, MO; a son-in-law, Greg Gruner, Mobile, AL; five grandchildren, Ashley (Caleb) Givens, Brooke (Cole) Hooten, Jenna (Coby) Keyes, Matthew Overbey, Kellie Overbey; and five great-grandchildren, Jase Hooten, Barrett Hooten, Everett Givens, Elizabeth Keyes, and Amelia Givens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Gruner; and a brother, James Anthony.

A private family gathering will be held at Trimble Funeral Homes.

Memorials donations are suggested to the Samaritan Center.
