Walter Leo McHugh

Walter Leo McHugh, Sr., 91, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at his residence. He was born October 19, 1926, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Leo Peter and Laura Sara (Huggins) McHugh. He was married on July 21, 1945, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Frances Gretchen Schirr, who preceded him in death on February 28, 2011. Walter served in the United States Navy during World War II and the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. In earlier years, he worked as a branch manager for Pittsburg Plate Glass Company for twenty-two years, and then became president and owner/partner of Bradys Glass and Paint Company. He completed his career as owner of the Frameateria in Kansas City, retiring in 1982. He was a member and past president of Cosmopolitan International and the Marine Corps League. Walter enjoyed gardening and watching University of Missouri football. Survivors include four children, Gretchen (Steve) Veltrop; Kirk McHugh; Walter McHugh, Jr.; and Tracy McHugh, all of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jayne Harrison, Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Christy McHugh and a granddaughter, Sarah Nicole McHugh. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Perkins officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Riverview Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2409 Hyde Park Rd., Jefferson City, MO 65109 or a charity of the donors choice. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
