Sylvester Vincent "Wes" Distler

Sylvester Vincent “Wes” Distler, 79, of California, Missouri passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born December 25, 1943, in Jefferson City, the son of Victor Joseph and Dorothy Leona (Schulte) Distler.

Wes served in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage on February 13, 1965, in Gloverville, South Carolina to Glenda Ada Kaney who passed away March 23, 2022.

Wes spent his career installing heating and cooling units and later became a supervisor for his company.

He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church. He was a long-time volunteer firefighter.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years and loved to cook. He especially enjoyed coming home to visit his family when they lived in South Carolina and Georgia.

Survivors include siblings, Donald Eugene (Mary Jo) Distler, Jefferson City; Gerald Francis Distler, New London; Joyce Elaine Ziehmer, California; Victoria Katherine (Roger) Hankins, San Antonio; Cynthia Ann (Terry) Volkart, California; Denise Patrice (Steve) Gerlt, California; and Lisa Rose (Robert) Anderson, West Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Distler, Jefferson City; and Misty Lee Distler, Prairie Home; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Victor Distler, and Douglas Anthony Distler; a sister, Ruth Dorothy (John) Bradley; a sister-in-law, Sandra Distler; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Lee Ziehmer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at Annunciation Catholic Church in California with the Rev. James Finder officiating.  Military honors will be held at the church following Mass.

Memorials are suggested to California Senior Housing or to Annunciation Catholic Church.
