Slater Bivian Moseley, Jr.

Slater Bivian Moseley, Jr., 79, of Big Lake Alaska went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at his home. He was surrounded by his wife Bonney and grandson Stephen.

He was born on April 21, 1940, in Ellisville, Mississippi, the son of (Bill) Slater B. Moseley, Sr. and Lola Belle Otwell Moseley who preceded him in death.

Upon graduation from High School he joined the United State Army and served for 5 ½ years.

On June 7, 1963, he was united in marriage to Jane E. Kibler who proceeded him in death on July 18, 2006. He had four daughters by this marriage.

After his marriage, he pastored a small church in Tennessee and then worked as a diesel mechanic for Len Lease in Dalton, GA for many years. In 1985 he joined Rock of Ages Prison Ministry in Cleveland, TN and moved to Missouri in 1988.

After arriving in Missouri, he served as Chaplain at Fulton Reception & Diagnostic Center (FRDC), Fulton, MO and also spent time at Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) and Algoa Correctional Center, Jefferson City, MO as well as Vandalia Women's Prison, Vandalia, MO and Chillicothe Correctional Center, Chillicothe, MO.

He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where he served as interim pastor in the late 1980's. He was also a member of Bible Baptist Church in the 1990's til he left for Alaska in 2015.

On November 15, 2008, he married Bonney Hoener at Bible Baptist in Jefferson City, MO. In April 2015 Bro. Slater and Ms. Bonney felt the call to move their ministry to Alaska. They started their ministry at the Highland Mountain Correctional Center (HCC), Eagle River, AK and Anchorage Correctional Center, Anchorage, AK. til his death.

He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, giving motorcycle and 4-wheeler rides to his children and grandchildren, and flying planes with his pilot’s license.

He is survived by his wife Bonney and grandson Stephen of the home; four daughters, Rebecca Jane Talbert, Holts Summit, MO; Anna Ruth Bunch of Russellville, MO; Esther Renee Ridenhour, Butte, MT; and Mary Lola Victoria Bunch, Russellville, MO; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Herrington, MS; four brothers, Thomas Huel Moseley, Sr., AL; Richard Moseley, MS; Frank Moseley, AL; William Moseley, FL; and many other friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2020, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, 10864 Platinum Rd, Holts Summit, MO with Pastor Nolan Wynn, Pastor Randy Dignan and Pastor Andy Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to service.

A meal for family members will be served at Bible Baptist Church in Jefferson City, MO following the services.

Additional services will be held in Ellisville, MS on Saturday February 15, 2020, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. followed by the funeral service with Pastor Roy Crouch, Dr. Terry Ellis of Rock of Ages Prison Ministry and Missionary Steve Gregory officiating.

Burial will be in Ellisville Cemetery in Ellisville, MS.

Memorials are suggested to be given to Ms. Bonney Moseley to help cover funeral expenses.
