Mary Wilhelmina Rackers, 85, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born May 5, 1936, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Walter and Wilhelmina (Schaeffers) Hammond.
Mary attended grade school in Moran, Kansas. She was a 1954 graduate of St. Peter High School in Jefferson City and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.
On September 17, 1960, she married Robert Joseph Rackers at St. Joseph Parish Church. He survives at the home.
Mary worked for Central Missouri Trust Company as an Internal Auditor, the Missouri Department of Higher Education as a Director of Date Collection, Addressograph-Multigraph as office manager before retiring after serving as Wildlife Division Executive Secretary at the Missouri Department of Conservation.
She later served as Parish Secretary at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Mary taught piano to students in the Jefferson City area for many years. She was the accompanist for the Jefferson City Cantorum and the Cathedral of St. Joseph choir.
She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Lady of St. Gregory, Dame of the Holy Sepulchre and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include her husband, Deacon Robert J. Rackers, Jefferson City; three children, Kathleen (Danny) Fischer, Warrenton; Thomas Rackers, Jefferson City; Gregory (Sandra) Rackers, Kansas City; and three grandchildren, Benjamin Rackers, Michael Rackers, and Katie Rackers
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Hammond.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Louis Nelen officiating.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus of Jefferson City.
