Liz Short

September 3, 1941 — October 18, 2022

Jefferson City, Missouri

Mary Elaine “Liz” Short, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Miller County Care in Tuscumbia, Missouri.

She was born September 3, 1941, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Sylvester Herman and Esther Marie (Dulle) Dulle. Liz was a 1959 graduate of Helias High School.

She was united in marriage on June 13, 1975, in Jefferson City at the Carmelite Monastery Chapel to V.C. “Bud” Short who preceded her in death on April 20, 2000.

Liz worked for L&M Office Supply, Thomas Jefferson Library as the Bookmobile Librarian, she was a homemaker and worked for United Telephone Company (CenturyLink) as a Service Provisioning Specialist for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. Liz was a longtime member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Liz loved traveling, she was an avid Cardinals fan, she enjoyed dining out with her Helias classmates and co-workers and attending her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. But her greatest love was her blended family she and Bud shared. She looked forward celebrating each and every holiday as a family at the cabin on the farm or at her home enjoying family favorite foods (pilaf, bag-o-potato salad & chocolate sheet cake), she always needed a head count and made sure everyone had their favorite beverage and plenty to eat, playing games and making memories.

Liz was a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, classmate, co-worker, and friend. But most of all, she was a wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma and was affectionately known as “Grandma Lizzy.”  She will be missed, but never forgotten.  Great-granddaughter Liza said to her mom “she can remember us again and she isn’t suffering.”

Survivors include six children, Gary (Tressy) McKinney, Lee’s Summit, MO; Kathy (Dave) Doerhoff, Jefferson City; Connie Engelbrecht, Eugene; Cyndi (Mike) Tolbert, Holts Summit; Christy (Jim) Watts, Eugene; Scott (Emily) Short, Eugene; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph (Rosie) Dulle, Jefferson City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Doris Rauschelbach; and a brother, Larry Dulle.
