Mary "Marie" Wilma Buschjost

Mary (Marie) Wilma Buschjost 95, of Jefferson City, passed away September 30, 2023, at Stonebridge, Adams Street Place.

She was born November 16, 1927, in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, the daughter of the late Joseph Mateos and Katherine J. (Lueckenhoff) Brenneke.

Marie was united in marriage on October 18, 1952, in Jefferson City at St. Peter Catholic Church to Victor Buschjost who preceded her in death on September 15, 2017.

Marie moved to Jefferson City with her sister Martha Ann Wieberg (deceased) to work for International Shoe Company. Once her children entered school she worked for Veit’s Village. She worked at Veit’s until her retirement in 2006.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City, and the Ladies Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 2693.

Marie was a loving and caring mother who enjoyed staying at home to raise her three children until they went to school. She was the best cook, and no one could come close to her fried chicken. She enjoyed embroidery, dancing on Friday and Saturday nights with her husband and a group of friends every weekend and vacationing with them. She volunteered at the Eagles Club in Jefferson City and loved going in making pies and helping with the dinners they hosted for benefits. She was honored to receive the “Mother of the Year” award from the Eagles Club Auxiliary. She always loved to talk about her home place in St. Elizabeth and go to the St. Louis Cardinals games whenever she could.  She never missed a game on TV.

Marie and Vic were married for 64 years and were just short of 65 years by his passing a month earlier. His passing left a void for Marie that she could never fill, and she missed him every day that they were apart. Her only comfort was knowing that she would be with him again someday. Marie was a woman of faith and you never saw her without a rosary in her hand at home. Marie enjoyed the company of her caregiver Erma Moskalski for the past two years.

Survivors include two sons, James Victor (Lisa) Buschjost, Taos; Jeffrey Joseph (Darlene) Buschjost, Wardsville; and one daughter Jacqueline Ann (Buschjost) (Jerry) Jenkins, Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Brian (Breay) Buschjost, Molly (Tom) Leonard all of Jefferson City, Adam (Leslie) Buschjost, Osage Bend, Nicole (Devin) Grothoff, Holts Summit, Josh (Ashleigh) Jenkins, San Diego, California, and Janet (Ashton) Glaser, Springfield, Missouri; eight great-granddaughters, Bailey and Bella Buschjost, Laney and Chiles Leonard, Collins Jo Glaser, Sophia Grothoff, Addilynn Buschjost and Aubree Buechter; three great-grandsons, Crue Glaser, Easton Grothoff and Gage Buschjost; and five sisters-in-law,  Margaret Brenneke, Agnes Brenneke, Margie Struemph, Julie Buschjost all of Wardsville, and Gladys Ann Lehman St. Martins.
