Martha H. Barnes, 94, of Jefferson City, Missouri passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, October 11, 2017, at The Timbers in Holts Summit. Martha was born on November 12, 1922, in Westphalia, to Henry J. and Johanna G. Wilbers. She was the youngest of eight children, and her siblings Aloys, George, Anton, Joseph, Josephine, Mary, and Adella all preceded her in death. On November 25, 1950, she was united in marriage to Arthur Ledoyt (Bud) Barnes, Jr., who preceded her in death on March 17, 1992. Martha graduated from Westphalia High School at 16 years of age. She moved to Jefferson City and eventually was hired by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, where she worked 41 years until her retirement in 1988. She worked as Executive Secretary for the Superintendent her last 17 years with the Patrol, working for five consecutive superintendents. Martha was a dedicated member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a devoted Catholic who spent much time in prayer. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, quilting, Scrabble, and Cardinals baseball. She always had a smile and a wry sense of humor, no matter what the circumstance. She lived a joyful life and delighted in friendships made everywhere she went. Martha lived her entire life with the greatest of dignity and service to God. She was a loving mother to Randall Barnes, loving grandmother to Jason Barnes and his wife, Jane; and a loving great-grandmother to four great-grandchildren, Atticus, Magdalena, Penelope, and Rosemary Barnes. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, October 16th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Celebration for Martha will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald D. Antweiler officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center, 1310 E. McCarty St., Jefferson City, MO 65101; or to the Carmelites. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
