Loretta Jean Matheis

Loretta Jean Matheis, 87, of Russellville, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at StoneBridge Villa Marie in Jefferson City.

She was born June 4, 1936, in Eldon, Missouri, the daughter of Barnie E. and Margaret N. (Stephens) Cantwell.
 
Loretta was a graduate of Eldon High School and attended Jefferson City Business College.

She was united in marriage on July 27, 1957, in Aurora Springs, Missouri to Charles Valentine Matheis who preceded her in death on June 25, 2020.
 
Loretta began working for the Russellville School District as a secretary.  She later worked for 18 years for the Missouri Department of Conservation Fisheries Division as a secretary and retired after many years from the Ruprecht family McDonalds corporation of Jefferson City.

She was a member of Russellville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and volunteered in the church office.  Loretta enjoyed sewing, reading, attending various grandchildren events, and her two dogs – Duke and Tillie.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Cindy) Matheis, Russellville; Neal (Karen) Matheis, Russellville; five grandchildren, Darah (Andy) Scott, Quintin (Jordyn) Matheis, Macy (Steven) Whittenberg, Mackenzie (Ryan) Maggard, Sam (Mariah) Matheis; eight great-grandchildren, Addison Porter, Zoey Whittenberg, Luke Maggard, Addilynn Scott, Connor Whittenberg, Hallie Maggard, Everett Scott, Elsie Matheis; and two brothers, Bob (Jackie) Cantwell, Jefferson City; and Tom (Laura) Cantwell, Olean, MO.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Carolyn Green.

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at Russellville Baptist Church.  A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rusty Kuhns officiating.

Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery.
 
Memorials are suggested to the Russellville Baptist Church, Enloe Cemetery, or to Phoenix Home Care & Hospice.
