Lonnie Markwayne Thompson, 77, of Lohman, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born October 3, 1946, in Meta, Missouri, the son of Raymond Robert and Edith Lucille (Fisher) Thompson.
Lonnie served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
He was united in marriage on October 23, 1999, in Vienna, Missouri to Berdene Jane (Kautsch) Plaster who survives at the home.
Lonnie's commitment to public service extended beyond his military tenure, as he faithfully served the City of Vienna for over three decades as its Police Chief. Additionally, he contributed his skills and hard work at ABB in Jefferson City, where he demonstrated his expertise as a welder and materials handler. His passion for agriculture was evident through his enjoyment of farming.
A man of faith, Lonnie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown. In his leisure time, he found solace in woodworking, coin collecting, hunting, fishing, woodcutting, and gardening alongside his beloved wife.
Survivors include his wife, Berdene Plaster, Lohman; two children, Shannon (Dana) Thompson, Vienna; Lana (Daniel) Germann, Vienna; two step-sons, Bradley (Julie)_ Plaster, Lohman; Brian Plaster, Centertown; eleven grandchildren, Loni (Galen) Pedersen, Christine Germann, Ashley Martin, Laura (Tim) Soldan, Lisa (David) Kelley, Delaney Thompson, Daniel Plaster, Katy (Branden) Waldrop, Kim (Kelsey) Bealer, Jessica Plaster, Karen (Darrell) Luebbert; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Donald (Nancy) Thompson, Vienna; twin Ronnie (Donna) Thompson, Vienna; and Mary Crider, St. Elizabeth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Brent Plaster; infant sister, Dessie May Thompson; and three brothers, Bill Thompson, Leo Thompson, and Marvin Thompson.
Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2024, at St. Johns’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Brian Whittle officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
