Leonard Herman Bruemmer

Leonard Herman Bruemmer, 85, of Taos, died Sunday, August 3, 2014, at his residence where he was cared for by his family. He was born January 31, 1929, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Lawrence Louis and Mathilda "Tillie" Marie (Schnieders) Bruemmer. He was united in marriage on May 10, 1949, in Jefferson City, to Mildred Frances Schmidt who preceded him in death on November 3, 2008. Leonard was a farm machinery mechanic. He also had worked for the Governor's Hotel, Joe Schmidt Construction, Tearney Equipment, Calloway Farmers Equipment, and the State of Missouri Office of Administration. Leonard was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus, National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, charter member of the Capital City Horseshoe Club, and the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed farming, dancing, card playing, fishing, bowling, horseshoe pitching, and hunting especially coon hunting. Survivors include: eight children, Milferd "Mel" (Becky) Bruemmer, Jefferson City; Linda (Jim) Kempker, Centralia; Darlene (Harold) Wolken, Osage Bend; Evelyn (Steve) Borgmeyer, Taos; Shirley (Danny) Talken, Taos; Dennis (Jonie) Bruemmer, Rich Fountain; Dale (Karen) Bruemmer, Taos; Mary Ann (David) Craigg, Taos; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Bruemmer, Taos; 35 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; five siblings, Herbert (Catherine) Bruemmer, Jefferson City; Bob (Dorothy) Bruemmer, St. Martins; Earl (Gnell) Bruemmer, Wardsville; Lawrence "Junior" (Lori) Bruemmer, Wardsville; Rosemary Schulte, St. Martins; and a sister-in-law, Monica Bruemmer, Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Leon Bruemmer; infant grandson, Christopher Borgmeyer; three brothers, Leroy Bruemmer, Bernard Bruemmer, Victor Bruemmer; a sister-in-law, Marian Bruemmer; and a brother-in-law, Anthony Schulte. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with the Rev. Wayne M. Boyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a prayer service at 3:15 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 7319 Route M, Jefferson City, Mo 65101.
