Kathleen McNally Penfold died Monday, August 7, 2017, at home in Jefferson City, Missouri. Kathy was born May 4, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a daughter of James McNally and Dolores Fischer McNally. She was raised in Milton and Janesville, Wisconsin. Kathy graduated from Janesville Senior High School in 1963. She attended the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree in 1967, subsequently becoming a Registered Nurse. Kathy attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison and received a Masters of Science in Pediatric Nursing in 1970. On December 20, 1969, Kathy married James F. Penfold in Madison, Wisconsin, who survives at the home. Kathy was a pediatric and public health nurse and Lamaze Prepared Childbirth instructor. During her early nursing career, she worked in newborn nurseries and with children with developmental and learning disabilities in a variety of hospital and clinical settings. In 1987, she moved to the public health setting in Miller County, Missouri for 5 years and then to a position with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, from which she retired in 2010. With the Department of Health she worked as a Public Health Nursing Consultant and a Child Care Health Consultant. Kathy was a certified Lamaze Childbirth Educator for over 40 years. She helped found and organize the Childbirth Education Association of the Fox Valley in Wisconsin. Kathy and her husband Jim were active the Marriage Encounter organization. They became involved in 1974 in Wisconsin and continued with the Jefferson City Marriage Encounter organization serving in various Board positions and as Presenting Team Members. Kathy was a member of the Missouri River Regional Library Board of Directors, serving in this role since 2012. One of Kathys proudest accomplishments happened between 2014-2016, when she attended and graduated from the Living School, which is a part of the Center for Action and Contemplation, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Through this program she focused on Christian meditation and social action. She was a member of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph Parish, involved in school and church activities over the years. Kathy enjoyed biking, walking, reading, and sewing. She kept her family history alive with colorful tales and legends of relatives. She will be remembered fondly for her cooking talent, reading to grandchildren and care of her plants. In addition to her husband, Kathy is survived by three children: Jennifer Boyd and her husband Tim, of Jefferson City, MO; Bridget Bahneman, and her husband, Chad, of Stillwater, MN; and Rebecca Penfold-Murray and her husband, Michael, of Saint Paul, MN; and cherished her dozen grandchildren: Hannah, Nathaniel, and Zachary Boyd; Annie, Liam, Thomas, Iris, and Ruby Bahneman; Teagan Fee, James, Peter, and Margaret Murray. She is also survived by her siblings Colleen McNally of Bend, OR; and Patrick McNally of Hopkins, MN, and by her aunt Arleen Fischer Schomann, of Milwaukee, WI. In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Annie Elizabeth Bahneman, who died at age 7 in August 2010. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 2215 W. Main Street, Jefferson City, MO. A combined visitation and luncheon will immediately follow in the Cathedral Undercroft. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Janesville, Wisconsin, where her parents are also buried.
