Judith Marie "Judy" Lewis

Judith Marie “Judy” Lewis, 74, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her residence after a long battle with colon cancer.

She was born on June 25, 1946, in St. Elizabeth, the daughter of the late Joseph Conrad and Clara Catherine (Fennewald) Jurgensmeyer.

She was a 1964 graduate of St. Elizabeth R-IV High School.

She was married on May 4, 1968, in St. Elizabeth to Larry L Lewis, who resides at the home.

In earlier years, Judy worked for the MFA Agri Services, Feed Division, in the accounting department. After a brief stay at home when she was raising her children, she returned to work at MFA Agri Services. In 1988, she joined Mertens Oil and completed twenty-five years before joining Fechtel Beverage Company working as a bookkeeper. In her retirement years, she worked at St. Peter School lunchroom.

She was a faithful and active member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Judy and her husband were members of the Knights and Dames of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. They served as Area Council for the Diocese of Jefferson City and Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau. They hosted the annual meeting of the Northern Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre in 2012. She was also an active member of the Dan C Coppin Assembly 573 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Auxiliary Council.

In high school, she served as Senior Class President and Junior Farmers of America State President.

She also volunteered her time with the Merida Foundation and went on mission trips with the organization.

Judy enjoyed playing cards, bowling, fishing, cooking, vegetable gardening, and her times with her family at the lake. She also loved to travel with her most memorable trips to the Holy Land and the Vatican.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; three children, Melissa (Trae) Lorts; Kevin (Michelle) Lewis; and Carrie (Keith) Hayes, all of Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Ashten Lorts, Rylee Lorts, Alexandra Lewis, Clayton Lewis, Carson Hayes, and Caroline Hayes; siblings, Virgil (Dee Dee) Jurgensmeyer, Phoenix, Arizona; LaVerne Dubbert, St. Elizabeth; Emogene Jurgensmeyer, St. Charles; Joe (Millie) Jurgensmeyer, Tipton; Arlene (Linnie) Kalaf, Columbia; and Charles (Margaret) Jurgensmeyer, Rogers, Arkansas; and two sisters-in-law, Viola Jurgensmeyer, St. Charles; and Ruth Jurgensmeyer, Columbia and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ambrose Jurgensmeyer and Robert Jurgensmeyer; two brother-in-laws, Victor Wilde and Daniel Dubbert; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Jurgensmeyer.

Visitation will be 4:30-7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2021, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with The Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop Emeritus of Jefferson City, officiating. The general public is welcome to attend the services while following social distancing guidelines. Facial coverings are suggested while in attendance.

A private burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Merida Foundation, the Cathedral of St. Joseph or to the American Cancer Association.
