George Herbert "Herb" Haaf

George Herbert Herb Haaf, 79, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at his residence. He was born on March 25, 1938, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Goedde) Haaf. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a graduate of the last class of St. Peter High School in 1956. George was united in marriage on September 16, 1957, in Jefferson City to Mary Agnes Rackers, who resides at the home. Herb served in the National Guard. George worked with various service stations in Jefferson City before he started working for AJ Rackers Heating and Cooling for 25 years. He then owned and operated Herb Haaf Heating and Cooling for 25 years. In recent years, Herb worked as a delivery driver for the Jefferson City News-Tribune. George was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He enjoyed the church picnics where he fried hamburgers at the sandwich stand, coached the little league baseball team, and loved to travel. Other survivors include a son, Deacon Jim (Kathy) Haaf, Taos; Michael Haaf (Shelly Culley), Lohman; Robert (Monica) Haaf, Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren, Amanda Haaf, Aaron Haaf (Loren Henson), Adam (Katy) Haaf; Joseph Haaf, Kate Haaf, Ashley Sims; three great-grandchildren, Bridgette Veit, Josh Veit, Rylie Haaf; a brother, John (Beverly) Haaf, Jefferson City; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave (Ann) Rackers, Ruth Wolken, Paul (Geneva) Rackers, Allen Rackers, Charles (Carol) Rackers, Nick (Rose) Rackers, Ann (Bill) McClain; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lillian Haaf; his father and mother-in-law, Alvin and Alvina Rackers; two brothers, William Haaf and Charles Haaf; and two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo and Virginia Prenger; and Leonard Wolken. Visitation will be 2:30-5 p.m. Sunday, August 13th, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with a prayer service at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 14th, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with the Rev. Gregory C. Meystrik officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier School at 7307 Route M, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.
