Ella Mae Altman

March 23, 1931 — January 9, 2023

Tebbetts

Ella Mae Altman, 91, of Tebbetts, Missouri passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, at her home.

She was born March 23, 1931, in Hornersville, Missouri, the daughter of CD & Lucille (Abraham) Altman.

She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Ella was the oldest of nine children growing up on a farm picking cotton. As a young girl, Ella accepted Christ as her personal savior.

After graduation from high school in 1948, she moved to downtown St. Louis to a lady’s residence where she got her first job in a factory. She and several of the women moved to the Navigator Home in University City and they invited her to Bible studies each week, where she learned to study her Bible regularly and how to witness to others.

Ella returned to school in her late thirties, receiving a nursing degree. She worked for the Missouri Baptist Hospital for a year then continued working as a nurse taking care of the elderly until her retirement in 1996.

Ella Mae never had a cross word to say to or about anyone. She would give you the shirt off her back. She was caring beyond words, always offering advice and scripture, as she was a firm follower of our Heavenly Father. She was instrumental in several other’s salvation as well. Her nursing years were spent on caring for the elderly, being with them when they had no one else, and comforting them in their final days, meaning every word she said. Her love and kindness will be imprinted on our hearts forever.

Survivors include Adaline Williams, Tebbetts; adopted daughter Robin (Rick) Bartley, Tebbetts; and her dog, Shadow; sisters, Polly Johnson, Windfield, MO, and Barbara Crane, Cape Girardeau; brothers, Gary (Barbara) Altman, Titusville, FL, Jerry (Arnida) Altman, Glennonville, MO.; her aunt, Toodie, Michigan City, IN; and many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Esterline; three brothers, Charles Altman, Larry Altman, and Terri Altman.

Memorials can be sent to the home of Adaline and Robin.
