Edward Lee Eddie Houchens, 63, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018, at home surrounded by all four of his girls. He was born January 2, 1955, in California, Missouri, the son of Donald Earl and Donna Ruth (Chamberlain) Houchens. Eddie was a 1973 graduate of Versailles High School. He was united in marriage on June 25, 1977, in Rich Fountain, to Bernadette Mary Bernie Brandt who survives. Eddie worked for Von Hoffman Press as a pressman for over 40 years. In retirement, he worked part-time at Menards. He was a part of the families of Capital City Christian Church and Capital West Christian Church for over 40 years. He ran the video production at Capital City for about 20 years and was the head angel at Journey to Bethlehem for 20 years. He was an active member of Meadow Lake Acres Golf Club for over 27 years and Railwood Golf Club where he thoroughly enjoyed golfing with Bernie and friends. He graced the stages of Stained Glass Theater and Capital City Productions. He enjoyed working with technology and video equipment. He and Bernie loved their nights out singing Karaoke with their friends. He also enjoyed fishing with the grandchildren, hunting, woodworking, and listening to his quad 8-tracks. He was a wonderful daddy to his three girls, an amazing papa to his nine grandchildren, and he was the best husband a girl could ever ask for. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Bernie Houchens, Jefferson City; three daughters, Cherie (Doug) Ehlen, Greenword, IN; Tammie (Ed) Blythe, Pittsville, MO; Christie (Lance) Buckner, Ashland, MO; his mother, Donna Houchens, Versailles; one brother, Gary (Debbie) Houchens, Billings, MO; nine grandchildren, Estella, Anastasia, Abigail, and Elijah Blythe; Titus, Georgia, and Daisy Ehlen; Alexis and Tristan Buckner; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Houchens; and a sister, Sherry Houchens. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Capital City Christian Church. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Capital City Christian Church with Pastors Don Fankhauser, Ken Harland, and Troy Easley officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Siteman Cancer Center or to Stained Glass Theater. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
