Dorothy Mae Clemons

Dorothy Mae Clemons, 79, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024, at her residence.

She was born February 23, 1945, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Turner) Stewart.

She was united in marriage on December 16, 1965, in Mt. Bayou, Mississippi to James Lee Clemons who preceded her in death on September 19, 2007.

Dorothy dedicated many years of her life to working in food service, showcasing her talents as a cook across different establishments, including the Salvation Army.

Her unwavering faith was an integral part of her life as a committed member of Second Baptist Church. In her leisure time, Dorothy found joy in exploring new destinations, indulging in coin collecting, and staying active through exercise.

Survivors include two sons, James Clemons, Jr. (Karen), Jefferson City; Levorne “Von” Clemons, Peoria, IL; one granddaughter, Sydney Clemons; and two sisters, Denise (Jerome) Stewart, Chicago, IL; and Janette Jones, Chicago, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her siblings, Virgilia Campbell, Joyce Campbell, Samantha Mitchell, and Lillie White.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery with Rev. W.T. Edmonson officiating.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Second Baptist Church.

Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, or to the United Negro College Fund.
