Donald Eugene Donehue

October 14, 1933 — March 25, 2021

Donald Eugene Donehue, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021, at Primrose Retirement Community.

Donald was born on October 14, 1933, to Peter F. Donehue and Anna Nilges Donehue in Frankenstein, Missouri.

Don was united in marriage to Patrice Short on August 12, 1977, in Rolla, Missouri.

After serving in the United States Army, he returned to mid Missouri where he continued his education completing a Master’s in Education from Central Missouri State University.

Don retired as Assistant Director of Academic Advising from Central Missouri State University in 1995.

Don owned and operated the family business, Donehue Tax & Insurance Service, with offices in Jefferson City and Linn until his stroke in June 2017.

Uncle Don’s passing signaled the end of an era for our family. He was the last of our Greatest Generation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents; and 9 siblings, Dorothy Vogel, Daniel, Jeanette Luetkemeyer, Lincoln, Eulalia Schepers, Arthur (Pete), Patrick, Richard, and Robert (Bob).

Uncle Don was a quiet guy with a very dry sense of humor. He could sneak in a hilarious comment during any conversation when it was least expected. Uncle Don enjoyed watching the Cardinals baseball games and loved watching them with family. He was known to occasionally invite himself to your home to watch a game and have hot dogs on the grill. He and Pat loved Christmas and their house was always decorated beautifully for the holidays.

Don had a large extended family and took his role as uncle very seriously. He was very kind and generous to everyone and treated his nieces and nephews as if they were his own children. Don brought boxes of chocolates to Christmas gatherings and gave many family boat rides on his pontoon at the Lake of the Ozarks.

We will miss our Uncle Don, but it was time for him to rejoin his family. As one cousin stated “He was always our Guardian Angel. Now it’s official.”.
