Darrell Gene Kirchner, 78, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
He was born August 13, 1938, in Lohman, Missouri, the son of Aldo and Alice Kirchner. He was raised by his mother Alice and stepfather, Otto Koestner.
He attended Russellville High School with the Class of 1956.
He served in the United States Navy from February of 1957 to July of 1958.
He was united in marriage on December 29, 1961, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson City to Billie Joyce Rhodes who survives at the home.
Darrell was the Founder, Owner, and President of Kirchner and Company which does Iron working and built some of the first and multiple Walmarts, and multiple dry kilns – both throughout the United States.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville, served as President and founding member of the Buffalo Club of Olean, member of the Eldon Country Club, member of the Elks Lodge in Jefferson City, member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 in Jefferson City, and was a member of Texas Longhorn Association.
Darrell obtained his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying for both pleasure and work. He enjoyed working with his cattle and tending to his corn and soybean crops, telling stories to everyone he knew (and folks he didn’t know), playing golf, and his morning coffee with his friends in Olean at the Hut.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Billie Kirchner, Russellville; his daughter, Kathryn Smith, Eldon; his two sons, Kevin (Kelly) Kirchner, Russellville; Kris (Tami) Kirchner, Russellville; six grandchildren, Kaytlin Kirchner, Haylee Smith, Mollie Kirchner, Addie Kirchner, Kayne Kirchner, Natalie Kirchner; half-brother, Harley (Joan) Koestner, Russellville; half-sister, Wanda (David) Larimore, Russellville; cousin, Linda (Dale) Smith, Jefferson City; and various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and step-father.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Russellville, with Pastor Ed Merckel officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Buffalo Club of Olean.
