Charles Dwaine Platter

Charles Dwaine Platter, 76, of Russellville, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Jefferson City Manor.

He was born June 29, 1946, in Moniteau County on the family farm, the son of Charlie and Treva Mae (Blankenship) Platter.

He was a 1964 graduate of Russellville High School.

Charles was married on June 26, 1966, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in California to Karen Klatt. From this union, two children were born, Kristi and Doug.

Charles worked for over 32 years with the Missouri Department of Transportation in various roles at several different locations.

He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church in Enon, Missouri; the Russellville Volunteer Fire Department where he previously served as Assistant Chief and was part of the Cole County Fire Chiefs Association; and the Cole County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary for over 20 years. He served on the committee that was instrumental in bringing 911 to Cole County; a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross; founding member of the Russellville Engine Show and Festival; and was an official for the Bianchi Cup Shooting Matches. Charles enjoyed going to flea markets and antique shows; attending the Jamesport Auction; woodworking which included building and refinishing furniture and other items for family; and listening to southern gospel and bluegrass music. Charles never knew a stranger and was a friend to many.  His loyal dog, Buddy, was always by his side.

Survivors include two children, Kristi Shields, Russellville; Doug (Cindy) Platter, Jefferson City; their mother, Karen Platter, Russellville; three grandchildren, Brian (Catlin) Shields, Katelyn (Seth) Raithel, Jarod Steinbeck; one sister, Shirley Goldammer, Russellville; and a dear friend, Sharon Distler and her family with whom he shared a loving bond.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Greg Shields; and a sister, Marlis Meyer.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Russellville. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Randy Trumbo officiating.

Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery - Russellville.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Shriners Children’s Hospitals.
