Calvin Lowell Flessa, 90, of Russellville, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Westphalia Hills in Westphalia, Missouri.
He was born June 1, 1929, in Burris Fork Township in Moniteau County Missouri, the son of the late Carl Frederick Flessa and Iva Naomi (McDonald) Flessa Griffin. Lowell was raised by his mother Iva Griffin and step-father, Lawrence P. “Pop” Griffin.
Lowell was a 1947 graduate of Russellville High School.
He was united in marriage in 1958, to Virginia Mae (Johnston) Crane at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lohman. Virginia passed away April 1, 2004.
Lowell worked as a lineman with Missouri Power and Light, and retired as a foreman for Union Electric. He was a member of IBEW 257. In his earlier years, he worked as a truck driver.
Lowell was active in the Russellville community serving as a City Councilman, School Board Member, founding member of the Russellville Volunteer Fire Department, and helped establish the Russellville Engine Show. He was a founding member of the Russellville Free Masons and later moved his membership to the California lodge.
He enjoyed working on antique engines, race car driver at Capital Speedway, and spending time at the lake with family and friends.
Survivors include five children, Debbie Flessa, Stevenson Ranch, CA; Debbie Crane, Jefferson City; Cathy (Kevin) Zumwalt, Jefferson City; Tom Flessa, St. Louis; James (Becky) Flessa, Russellville; thirteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia Crane Flessa; two sons, David Flessa and Larry Crane; one great-granddaughter, Hattie Crane; and a brother, Donald Gene Flessa.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2020, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville.
Funeral service with Masonic Rites will follow at 11 a.m. at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville. The service will be live-streamed for those who wish to watch from home. The link can be found on his obituary page at www.scrivnermorrowrussellville.com.
The general public is welcome to attend the services while following social distancing guidelines. Please stay 6 feet apart and avoid close contact. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to wear personal masks or other personal protective equipment while in attendance.
Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Enloe Cemetery or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lohman.
