Avis Arlene Elenz, 89, of Jefferson City, died Friday, October 30, 2020, at Adams Street Place.
She was born on April 18, 1931, in Woonsocket, South Dakota, the daughter of John Godfrey and Vernie Stegeberg Godfrey.
She was married on February 14, 1950, in Woonsocket to Floyd Joseph Elenz (Floozie) who preceded her in death on September 29, 2007.
Avis graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1949 and was employed with the USDA ASCS for thirty-six years. She received several awards for her efficiency suggestions and was a member of NASCOE. After retirement they enjoyed wintering in South Texas.
She attended the United Methodist Church, and later joined Saint Wilfrid Catholic Church.
She greatly enjoyed line-dancing, water exercise, playing cards, Scrabble and Creative Writing, and was always reading at least one book.
Avis was active in church and community choirs, was an excellent pianist, and loved to plan embarrassing skits for family and friends. She was very sociable and easily made new friends.
Survivors include two children, Thomas M. (Cheryl) Elenz, Chanhassen, Minnesota; and Lori S. (Tom) Steever, Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Nick (Annalise) Elenz, Knoxville, Tennessee; Danny (Maggie) Elenz, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Brian (Katie) Steever, Kansas City, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Milo Godfrey.
A memorial service will be held at the Memorial Park Pavilion on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 1 PM with masks and social distancing requested.
