ALFRED F. MENGWASSER

Alfred F. Mengwasser, 80, of Taos, died Monday, November 15, 2010, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born on February 9, 1930, in Rich Fountain, Mo., the son of the late Henry and Mary Radamacher Mengwasser. Alfred attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Rich Fountain. He was united in marriage on April 14, 1956, in Linn, Mo., to Leona Agnes Berhorst who resides at the home. Alfred worked for Missouri Builders Service Inc., in Jefferson City as a roofer, salesman, and estimator for 44 years until his retirement in 2000.
Alfred served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a tail gunner on the B-29 Super Fortress Bomber from 1951-1955. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where he served as a Lay Communion Minister. He was a member of the Taos Knights of Columbus Council 6430 and a member of the St. Judes Knights of Columbus Council 1567 4th Degree since 1974, where he served as Captain of the Honor Guard from 1990-2010. He was the financial secretary of the Vocare Club.
Other survivors include: six daughters, Ruth (Tom) Kliethermes, Loose Creek; Arlene (Rex) Filion, Powells Point, NC; Laura (Dennis) Even, Folk; Donna Suzie (Michael) Mankin, Lohman; Martha (Doug) Even, Westphalia; Ann (John) Davis, Worthington; one foster daughter, Pat (Lee) Kirk, Jefferson City; seven grandchildren, Neil and Brian Kliethermes; Adam Filion; David Mankin; Bradley and Scott Davis; and Ashley Even; several foster grandchildren and foster great-grandchildren; four siblings, Clem (Leoba) Mengwasser, Rich Fountain; Norbert Mengwasser, Rich Fountain; Rosaline (Leonard) Voss, Linn; Bernadine Pope, Rich Fountain; and two sisters-in-law, Pearl Mengwasser, Westphalia; and Angeline Mengwasser, Lohman. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Even; one sister, Loretta Nilges; and three brothers, Ignatius, Vincent, and Arthur Mengwasser.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Wayne M. Boyer officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association; American Diabetes Association, or St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
