URBAN BERNARD LUETKEMEYER

Urban Bernard Luetkemeyer, 85, of St. Martins, died Tuesday, June 24. 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on June 10, 1923, in St. Elizabeth, to Frank Xavier and Anna Luebbert Luetkemeyer. He was a 1946 graduate of St. Elizabeth High School. He was united in marriage on October 8, 1949, in Jefferson City to Lois Frances DeWesplore who survives at the home. Mr. Luetkemeyer was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II in combat infantry in the Pacific Theatre. Urban owned and operated Luetkemeyer Service Station & Grocery Store in Wardsville from 1953-1956 and later in Apache Flats from 1957-1998. He was involved in numerous business ventures, currently the Dome Flea Market in McGirk. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, life member of St. Martin VFW Post 35, and helped to organize and promote the Jefferson City Babe Ruth Baseball Association, St. Martin Little League, and the Apache Flats Fire Department. Urban enjoyed playing the harmonica, following current events, working in his yard, and watching baseball. He loved working with his children and playing with his grandchildren. Other survivors include: five daughters, Jane McKim, Jefferson City; Jackie Steuber, New Bloomfield; Susie Theroff, Lohman; Sally Brewer, Ringgold, GA; Dianne Luebbert, Jefferson City; three sons, John Luetkemeyer, McGirk; Kennan Luetkemeyer, McGirk; Tom Luetkemeyer, St. Charles; thirty-one grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruth Kolb; Pauline Luetkemeyer; and Mary Lou Luebbert; all of Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Nick Luetkemeyer; sister, Helen Thessen; and four brothers, Albert, Herman, Robert, and Ralph Luetkemeyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt and Rev. Brendan P. Doyle Concelebrating. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Special Learning Center, 1115 Fairgrounds Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109; Vogelweid Learning Center, 314 W.
