Mary Louise Stegeman

Mary Louise Stegeman, 78, of St. Martins, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Jefferson City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born June 17, 1935, in Elston, Missouri the daughter of the late Milburn Henry and Helen Mary (Dulle) Schenewerk. She was 1952 graduate of Jefferson City High School and received an associates degree from Capital Business College in Jefferson City. She was united in marriage on September 5, 1953, in St. Martins to Elmer John Stegeman who preceded her in death on April 12, 2007. Mrs. Stegeman worked for International Shoe Company for 10 years; Culligan Water Conditioning for over 2 years; Missouri Bar Association for 4 years; Tupperware Manager for 7 years; assisted her husband with Cheyenne Club; and retired in 1997, after 20 years as an Account Clerk Supervisor for the Missouri Department of Health. She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church where she served on the Parish Council and Finance Committee, was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Greeter, and Director of Worship. She was also a member of the Ladies Sodality, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 Auxiliary, and the Red Hatters. She is survived by six children, Laurel "Laura" (Russell) Crossland, Columbia; Glenn Stegeman, McGirk, Mo; Lisa (Alan) Crossland, Jefferson City; Michelle (James) McAllister, Hermiston, Oregon; Mitchell Stegeman, Jefferson City; Stacy Stegeman, Jefferson City; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with one due in February; and three sisters, Arlene Viet, Palmyra, Mo; Rita Rustemeyer, Centertown; and Helen Meller, Lohman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Jesse McAllister; three sisters, LaVerne Schulte, Loretta Schmutzler, Dorothy Woods; a brother, Charles Schenewerk; and a son-in-law, James Warden. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Friday at St. Martin Catholic Church with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church, 7148 St. Martins Ave., Jefferson City, Mo 65109; or to American Cancer Society, 2413 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, Mo 65109.
