Joseph Herman Brauner

Joseph Herman Brauner, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at St. Joseph Bluffs.

He was born April 13, 1931, in Cole County, the son of Clarence Joseph and Rose Catherine (Goeller) Brauner.

He was a 1950 graduate of St. Peter High School.

He served his country with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He was married on June 16, 1956, at St. Martin Catholic Church to Anna Marie Distler, who preceded him in death on August 25, 2004.

Joe worked for forty years in Road Maintenance for the Missouri Department of Transportation, retiring January 1, 1990.

He was a faithful member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph where he served as an usher, communion minister and Perpetual Adoration. He also volunteered as a communion minister for St. Mary’s Health Center. He was an honorary life member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph Knights of Columbus Council 12992.

Joe loved to dance and play cards but his favorite times were spent with his family. He was famous in his family for calling each person and singing happy birthday every year.

Survivors include five children, Shirley Schulte, Jefferson City; Kenneth Brauner, Centertown; Sharon Brauner, Jefferson City; Gregory (Greta) Brauner, Centertown; and Roger (Lori) Brauner, Jefferson City; a daughter-in-law, Christine Brauner, Lohman; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Brauner, California and Lillian Veit, Jefferson City; and a brother-in-law, Jerome Reinkemeyer, Argyle.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cecilia Brauner; a son, Patrick Brauner; a brother, Walter Brauner; a sister-in-law, Margaret Reinkemeyer; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Veit and Martin Distler.

Visitation will be 9-11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Louis M. Nelen officiating.

The general public is welcome to attend the services while following social distancing guidelines. Facial coverings are required while in attendance.

Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Cathedral of St. Joseph or to Alzheimer’s Association.
