IRENE G. REDEL

Irene G. Redel, 87, of Jefferson City, formerly of Vienna, Mo., died Saturday, December 5, 2009, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born on October 21, 1922, in Vienna, Mo., the daughter of the late John Clemens and Roberta Vaughan Graham. A 1939 graduate of Vienna High School, she was united in marriage on November 8, 1942, in Athens, Ga., to George William Redel. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1982. Witnesses to their marriage were Andrew and Virginia Buschmann. She worked at Fort Leonard Wood in 1940, taught school in Vienna in 1941 and 1942, and served the Federal government in Supplies Administration from 1943 to 1945. Along with her husband, she owned and operated Redels Grocery Store, Vienna, Mo., from 1946-1959; was a buyer in the purchasing department for McGraw-Edison, Jefferson City, from 1959-1984; and worked in the admissions department at Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City, from 1986-2004. Mrs. Redel was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a former member of Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, Mo.; Eagles Auxiliary; Roscoe Enloe Post 5 American Legion Auxiliary; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Argyle Auxiliary. She enjoyed big band music of the 1940s, traveling, dancing, sewing, baking, bird watching, and playing Dominoes with family and friends.
Survivors include: a niece, Helen Tipton, Jefferson City; two nephews and their wives, William B. and Alice Graham and John C. and Anabeth Graham, all of Jefferson City; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elsie Henderson Elrod; her brother, William B. Graham, Sr.; and a nephew, Howard L. Henderson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, Mo., with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery, Vienna, Mo. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna, MO.
